Democrats Demand Noem be Fired, Congressional Accountability for ICE
House Democrats have opened an investigation into Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, and are threatening to attempt to impeach her if Donald Trump does not fire her first.
Meanwhile, the heads of three agencies that deal with immigration — CBP, ICE, and USCIS — will appear before the House Committee on Homeland Security on Feb. 10 and its Senate counterpart on Feb. 12, giving a window into how serious Republicans are in their scattered calls for accountability in the wake of Alex Pretti’s killing.
Democrats are threatening to vote against a slate of appropriations bills that have been packaged with funding for DHS; Majority Leader Chuck Schumer is urging Republicans to split that funding off, allowing senators to add reforms for ICE into it while keeping much of the government open.
