Beloved Florida Vice Mayor SHOT & KILLED In Apparent Domestic Violence Incident -- Now Her Husband Is Charged With Murder!

A beloved Florida official has tragically been murdered.

It’s with a heavy heart we report Coral Springs Vice Mayor Nancy Metayer Bowen has sadly passed away at just 38 years in an act of gun violence. The official Coral Springs, Florida Government account on Facebook announced the news with a “heartbroken” statement on Wednesday:

“We are heartbroken to share that Vice Mayor Nancy Metayer has died. She was more than a public servant, she was a light in our community. Her leadership was grounded in compassion, strength, and an unwavering commitment to others. Her impact on Coral Springs is immeasurable, and her loss leaves a void in our hearts. We ask our community to keep her family, loved ones, and all who are grieving in your thoughts and prayers. In this difficult time, we stand together as one city. We will carry her light, even in this darkness.”

So incredibly awful. And once you learn what happened — and who has been arrested in connection — things will feel a whole lot MORE awful.

According to Florida Politics, Nancy lost her life in a domestic violence incident which ended in a shooting. The Coral Springs Police Department corroborated the report and confirmed that her own husband Stephen Bowen is a suspect. Stephen reportedly fled 30 minutes away to Plantation, Florida, but was apprehended at the Landmark Towers apartment complex.

A source told Florida Politics that a friend of Nancy’s called her on Wednesday to chat, but couldn’t reach her. So the friend then dialed Stephen, who “sounded suspicious.” 911 was the next call made.

Coral Springs Police Chief Brad Mock said during a press conference that officers reported to Nancy’s residence at around 10:00 a.m. local time that same day to conduct a wellness check and found her deceased. A statement on the official Coral Springs website revealed:

“Upon arrival, officers discovered a deceased Black female victim within the residence and positively identified her as Vice Mayor Nancy Metayer Bowen. Through the preliminary investigation, it was determined the incident was domestic in nature and the husband, Stephen Bowen … is in police custody. At this time there are no additional suspects being sought or threat to the community.”

Mock didn’t immediately detail Nancy’s cause of death, but jail records show Stephen was charged with premeditated murder and tampering with or fabricating physical evidence. See his mugshot (below):

What an awful situation. Sadly, this comes just months after the death of Nancy’s younger brother Donovan Joshua Leigh Metayer, who was a survivor of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting in Parkland in 2018.

Nancy was a rising star in the Democratic Party, drawing attention from both Joe Biden and Kamala Harris to serve as Florida’s Caribbean Vote Director during the 2024 presidential election, according to Florida Politics. Notably, Nancy was the first Black woman to be elected to the Coral Springs Commission back in 2020.
